Belongings

We recommend that owners bring familiar bedding and toys that the owner deems safe for their cat to help your cat settle in.

Feeding

We can provide food but we highly recommend you provide your own food that your cat is accustomed to. This will avoid unnecessary stress for your cat.We feed cats in the AM and PM but may be able to accommodate other times if necessary. Kittens and elderly cats can be fed more frequently if required.

Fresh Water from our private well is provided for cats and refreshed at least twice a day. Water has been tested and is of excellent quality.

On-Site Visits

On-site inspections are welcomed but are by prior appointment only as we are a family-run business.

Cat owners are advised to ensure their cat is up-to-date with flea/tick/worm treatment prior to boarding.

Male cats over 6 months of age must be neutered. We can not accept intact male cats.

Microchip

It is recommended that you have your cat microchipped.

If we can not make contact with the cat owner and if the cat has not been collected within 14 days of the departure date we will proceed with legal action.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Accommodation

This is an exclusive, cat-only boarding facility. The cattery has 10 spacious cat suites with tunnels to allow the cat to move from indoor to outdoor space. It’s located in a rural area without air pollution. The cat can sleep indoors or outdoors. Individual litter trays are kept in the outdoor section. Cats food and water are kept in the indoor room. A heat mat is provided and a cosy, wooden cave bed on a high shelf, if the cat wants to hide.

Stress

We can use a feliway diffuser plugged in to provide calming pheromones 24/7 if you feel your cat needs this. We can also play the radio softly in background if we feel any cats are stressed. Seasonally we provide organic, home -grown cat mint leaves if you would like us to give this to your cat. This can help with stress levels.

Play Area

There is a play area which is separate to the cats indoor/outdoor suites. Each cat will get time in here during their stay. If you have cats from the same household, they can play out here together. This room is a large, airy room with climbing frames, natural branches, scratch posts and raised shelves. We recommend you bring some toys that you deem safe for your cat so that we can put them in the play area for them. We leave the door open to their indoor/outdoor suite so they can return to their suite at any time if they want comfort/privacy/to use litter tray etc.

Supervision /Responsibility

The owners of Emerald Cat Hotel live on site and will be present on a daily basis to supervise cats and deal with any emergencies. Emergency staff and additional keyholders also live very close to the cattery.

Sharing

Cats from different households will not share the same units. Family suites are provided for cats from the same household where this is preferred by the owner. Some of our cat suites have lockable adjoining cat doors so we can use multiple suites for multiple cats from the same family if necessary.

Litter Trays

All suites have individual litter trays. Litter trays are filled with compostable, biodegradable cat litter. Litter trays are kept in the outdoor section of the suite whereas food and water are in the indoor section. Litter trays are cleaned twice a day and monitored for additional cleaning as appropriate.

Access

Access to the cat suites are via a door leading to a safety corridor. The entrance door must be closed and locked on entry before any individual cat unit doors are opened to avoid cats escaping. Pens are opened individually to avoid cats coming into contact with each other.

Bedding and Sleeping

Each suite is equipped with an enclosed, wooden ‘cave bed’ with adequate hiding space. Each suite is equipped with a heat mat. Should any of these fail, we have heat lamps. We also have a generator for electricity outages.

Water Provision

Fresh water is provided for each cat on a daily basis in separate water bowls. Water is changed twice a day or sooner if visibility spoiled. Water is from our private well and is not treated with chlorine. There is no added fluoride in our water. Water bowls are in the indoor section whereas the litter tray is in the outdoor section. Water bowls are kept separate from food bowls.

Feline interactions

Cats are provided with enclosed hiding spaces and spaces where they can relax without being in the view of other cats. Windows allow in light and the outdoor space allows constant access to fresh air and sounds /sights of nature.

Human interaction

On arrival we will ask the owner if the cat likes any specific interactions with humans. E.g. Rubs, games, massages, being brushed. We will monitor the cat and only provide the human interaction that the cat is comfortable with.

Disease Control

Disease control is a high priority at Emerald Cat Hotel. The cattery procedures avoid cats mixing with each other. Where there is concern over the health of a cat, we have an isolation pen in place and owners will be contacted.

Handling Cats

Hands are washed thoroughly as we move from one suite to the next.

Hygiene

All pens are cleaned with animal-friendly detergents before each cat arrives. Bedding, litter trays and feeding bowls are kept clean. All obvious food waste and litter is removed on daily monitoring checks.

Transportation of animals

‘The Cat Cab’ is the vehicle we use for transporting cats and is considered an extension of the cattery site and will be subject to the same regulations for cleanliness and safety. All cats must be transported in a suitable, lockable carrier box.

Liability

Emerald Cat Hotel is fully insured to cover loss, injury, illness or death. This does not cover any pre-existing conditions prior to visit.

Fire and Other Emergencies

The cattery office building is equipped with a fire extinguisher which is easily accessible in the case of a fire. In the case of an emergency, all cats will be removed to a temporary location in their personal cat boxes. They will be housed either in an ancillary building or in extreme cases, within the proprietor’s home.
